The Barrett Brothers – A Short History
Based in the seaside town of Deal, Kent, self-taught musicians Joshua and Joseph Barrett began playing guitar at the ages of 11 and 13, respectively. Progressing through Rock to Heavy Rock the boys looked pretty much set to, well, rock, until in his late teens Joshua was introduced to the music of Django Reinhardt and an obsession was born.
Realising that to master Django would be the ultimate challenge the boys quickly decided to hang up their Fenders and pick up the guitars of their idol and the duo now play handmade, custom built prototypes of Django’s 1932-52 Selmer Maccaferri.
With Joshua playing the lead and Joseph providing the rhythm the pair have been wowing audiences in the UK and on The Continent since 2007, both as The Barrett Brothers and in various collectives, including Djangles and The Smile.
